What began with a single chuckwagon tarp at the Calgary Stampede has grown into a long-standing community tradition built on friendship, generosity, and having a whole lot of fun along the way. Every barn night, golf tournament, and fundraising event helps create real impact for local families — proving that when you bring good people together, good things always happen.
The Big Hearted Mavericks were founded in 2000 by a group of like-minded local businessmen who shared two passions: celebrating the spirit of chuckwagon racing and supporting children’s charities in our community. Since then, the Mavericks have stayed true to their mission — having fun while making a real impact.
From cheering on our drivers at the Calgary Stampede to hosting one of Calgary’s most successful charity golf tournaments, the Mavericks Charity Classic, the Mavericks have continued to grow a tradition built on friendship, generosity, and community spirit.
Today, the Mavericks have raised over $6 million to support child-focused non-profit agencies and families across Calgary.
Every dollar raised through Mavericks fundraising events goes directly to children’s charities in Calgary — not to administration, operations, or overhead.
This principle is the heart of who we are. When you attend a Mavericks event, sponsor a tournament, or buy a barn night, you’re contributing to real impact for local families. Your support flows straight into programs that help children thrive.
All operational expenses — including chuckwagon upkeep, barns, and Society activities — are paid entirely by Maverick member dues and barn-night revenue.
This ensures that our charitable dollars are never diluted. Our members proudly shoulder the cost of keeping the Mavericks running so that every fundraising effort remains pure, transparent, and focused where it matters most: helping kids.
Every charitable dollar raised by the Mavericks is transferred to and donated through the Big Hearted Mavericks Foundation.
