2020 Cross Check Cancer Hockey Tournament
Event Description
With the health and safety of our members, volunteers and our generous supporters being top of mind we have made the decision to cancel the Cross Check Cancer 2020 Tournament. With the ever-increasing risks and uncertainty associated with COVID-19 the health and well-being of everyone associated with this event takes precedent over the much-needed boost this event brings to our charity partners every year.
Although the tournament will no longer take place, fundraising for Kids Cancer Care is still open and we encourage you to still make a donation to the cause by clicking the button below. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Although the Mavericks have decided not to proceed with this year’s tournament, we are fully committed to the charities who need our support now more than ever. Our charitable mandate at the Big Hearted Mavericks is to support charities that have a small portion of their budgets provided through government funding. These entrepreneurial organization proactively raise a significant portion of their budgets through events like ours. The COVID-19 virus and the resulting cancelation of group events across the city is going to have a devastating impact on the much-needed services these charities provide.
This past weekend I had several conversations with our foundation past President Dave Udy and Dan Finot (tourney founder) and came up with an idea to spin this negative time into a positive event – a VIRTUAL tournament! Although there is no hockey being played, anyone can enter a team to fund raise with NO minimum entry fee which opens the door to EVERYONE to help give a little to help our chosen charity – Kid’s Cancer Care. We are working on the details such as how this will play out – prizes, updates and guidelines on the virtual tournament. We as Mavericks feel there is always a solution to a problem and know we CAN make a difference with everyone’s help! We already have several companies wanting to register and help fundraise and have some great ideas floating that will help make this a fun and effective way of keeping positive in these troubling times, we will get more information out to all in the next few days.
As well, we are more than happy to provide a full refund of your team’s registration fee and we understand that times are challenging for all of us at this time but if you would like to continue to help us make a difference in the lives of the children our charities support we would be happy to issue a tax deductible receipt, in whole or in part, of your registration fee from The Big Hearted Mavericks Foundation.
