The 2024 Maverick Cup
Join Cross Check Cancer in their 10th year of fighting cancer and help us carry on the tradition of the Cross Check Cancer Tournament through the Maverick Cup. Lace up for the 2024 Maverick Cup! Kids Cancer Care and Kid Sport are honoured to be the recipients of this year's fundraising donations.
Cross Check Cancer is a group that battles against cancer through sport and entertaining events in the Calgary area. Help us carry on the tradition of the Cross Check Cancer Tournament. In 2011, Dan Finot was eager to do something to honour his mother, who was recently taken by cancer, while bringing people together, united in a common cause. Dan came up with a charity hockey tournament and brought a couple of friends in on the idea. His friends Greg Gerritsen and Patrick Sutherland had also lost family members to the disease and together they built the Cross Check Hockey Tournament. The guys were quick to point out that from the beginning their spouses Jen Finot, Janice Gerritsen and Ashley Sutherland have played a big role in the charity fundraiser. The Big Hearted Mavericks are pleased to help carry this tradition onward.

Team Fundraising Instructions
As a team participating in the Maverick Cup tournament, there is an expectation that your team fundraises a minimum of $3,000 (approx. $200 per player based on a 15 player team).
In order to simplify and gamify the process of fundraising, we are using a fundraising platform called Tillen.
Each team, and each player should register for Tillen and create/join their team on Tillen.
We suggest that the team captains create their profiles first, then create their teams and invite their team members while creating their team, and following the step by step videos below to get started

Tips for Joining Your TEAM to the Fundraiser
Toggle your profile to your “Team” by clicking on the profile window in the top right corner.
Select Your “Team” and navigate back to the homepage. You will now be interacting on Tillen as your “Team”
Navigate to the Fundraiser that you’d like to participate in and click on the “Participate” button, enter your fundraising goal and then click “Join Fundraiser”.
Finally click on the profile window in the top right corner and click on the “My Profile” button. Share this link to your network to direct fundraising to your team’s profile.
Tillen FAQs
Can I donate cash or cheque through Tillen?
No, unfortunately we are unable to accept cash or cheque donations through the platorm. However, if you, someone on your team, or someone in your network would like to donate the the Big Hearted Mavericks Foundation, you can do so by making a cheque out to “The Big Hearted Mavericks Foundation” and mail it to the address below.
